The Queens House

Known as the official residence of the Queen in London Buckingham Palace is at the same time the busy administrative headquarters of the monarchy. This appealing structure located in the city of Westminster is one of the most eminent and easily recognisable facade of any building in the world.

The Queens House is mainly used for state and royal functions but has also become a significant tourist attraction. This palace has also been a place where the British people come together for country wide celebrations as well as catastrophic situations.

The structure at the heart of Buckingham Palace is a building that was originally a townhouse of considerable size that was constructed in 1703 to accommodate the Duke of Buckingham. It served this purpose until 1761 whereupon it was acquired as a private residence by George III. From this point onward it came to be known as “The Queen’s House” and was expanded gradually over a period of 75 years in to what it is today. This gigantic task was mainly executed by architects Edward Blore and John Nash.

The palace contains 77000 square metres of floor space. During summer visitors from all across the world are given the opportunity to tour the glorious nineteen State Rooms which form the heart of the Palace. The guests of the palace are welcomed and entertained in the state rooms which are used mainly by the queen and other members of the royal family. These rooms are elegantly and luxuriously designed with some of the premium material belonging to the royal collection.

The 42acre garden of the Palace is abundant with wildlife and visitors will have the luxury to enjoy a leisurely stroll in the garden which also provides a fantastic Garden Front view of the Palace and the lake that belongs to the 19thcentury. Adjacent to the palace is the Royal Mews also designed by Nash where the royal carriages including the Gold State Coach are housed.

This magnificent Palace with impressive works of art is attended night and day by special troops of the British Army. These troops work in shifts and each time a new shift comes on there is a very colourful ceremony known as the “Changing of the Guard.

The palace houses the offices of the Royal Household and provides employment for 450 people. Each year some 50000 invited guests are entertained at garden parties receptions audiences and banquets.
