There are plenty of spots in Spain where tourists can enjoy a great holiday.
From the beautiful architecture of Barcelona through to the hedonistic pleasures of Ibiza. But only one region of Spain enjoys sunshine all year round.
As the Canary Islands are located some way south of the mainland – off the cost of West Africa, close to the Tropic of Cancer.
As a result of this clement year round climate Lanzarote holiday villas are in demand all year round. Especially amongst discerning visitors from the UK, who make up the majority of arrivals on this tiny Canary Island. Accounting for around half of the annual 1.5 million visitors here.
As well as great weather Lanzarote is blessed with a lot of different thing to do and see – which helps to account for its broad appeal. Sports enthusiasts love the island as they can train for and practice activities such as cycling all year round. Whilst those who prefer to be a little less active are able to soak up the sun on one of over 90 beaches at any time of the year.
Lanzarote is also home to the weird and wonderful scenery of the Fire Mountains – or the Timanfaya National Park. Scene of series of huge eruptions that totally transformed Lanzarote´s interior around 250 years ago. Destroying villages and farms and leaving spent peaks and lava fields in its wake.
The influence of these eruptions is everywhere. Most notably perhaps in the work of the famous local artist César Manrique. Whose canvases often seem to reflect the colours and textures of the surrounding volcanoes.
Manrique was instrumental in securing the controlled development of tourism on Lanzarote. Whilst also creating unusual visitor attractions that work in harmony with Lanzarote´s volcanic terrain. Such as the Mirador del Rio, Cactus Garden and he Jameos del Agua.
The bulk of the best villas in Lanzarote are located in the oldest and most popular resort of Puerto del Carmen. Which is just a short fifteen minute transfer fro the international airport at Arrecife.
Puerto del Carmen was once known as La Tiñosa – a sleepy and quaint little fishing village. But forty years after the arrival of package tourism it remains the largest and oldest resort on the island.
There´s plenty of good quality accommodation here and tourists can choose from a wide range of apartments and villas in Puerto del Carmen. With rental rates starting from around €170 per week for a small studio apartment on a centrally located complex.
