Getty Center A World Of Its Own

The Getty Center established in December 16 1997 houses the J. Paul Getty Museum Getty Research Institute the Central Garden the Getty Conservation Institute the Getty Foundation and the J. Paul Getty Trusts administrative offices.

The J. Paul Getty Museum is expertly split into five galleries the North East South West and the Changing Exhibit Pavilion. An impressive collection of paintings decorative arts sculptures illustrated manuscripts drawings and other works of art from the precentury European period and some magnificent photographs from America and Europe during the 19th and 20th centuries are on display here.

Some of the outstanding pieces include Irises by Vincent Van Gogh a copy of Portrait of Louis XIV from the workshop of Hyacinthe Rigaud Portrait of a Halberdier by Pontormo Arii Matamoe or The Royal End by Paul Gauguin etc.

The Central Garden is a lavish work of art by Robert Irwin with a plaza as its focal structure. A walkway that is lined by tall trees and crisscrossed by a stream is a sight to see with the sun reflecting off the water. The stream runs into a water fall before gushing into a beautiful circular pool with fragrant azaleas and surrounded by exquisite gardens. The garden is a gorgeous collection of plants and flowers with an ever changing scenery with more than 500 varieties of plants to choose from.

The Getty Research Institute serves as a well of knowledge for advanced perceptions about visual arts. It also houses a library that contains a vast collection of books auction catalogs two million photographs of art and architecture periodicals special collections etc. Apart from all this the institute also holds exhibitions and is responsible for several publications and a residential scholars program.

The Getty Conservation Institute opened in 1985 is an excellent platform for education scientific research model field projects training etc.
